The End of Her

Author: Shari Lapena
Genre: Adult Fiction
Reviewer: Kevin Athy / Castledermot Library

It starts with a shocking accusation . . . Stephanie and Patrick are recently married, with new-born twins. While Stephanie struggles with the disorienting effects of sleep deprivation, there’s one thing she knows for certain – she has everything she ever wanted.
Then a woman from his past arrives and makes a horrifying allegation about his first wife. He always claimed her death was an accident – but she says it was murder. He insists he’s innocent, that this is nothing but a blackmail attempt. But is Patrick telling the truth? Or has Stephanie made a terrible mistake?

I can understand why there’s such a demand for The End of Her as Shari Lapena had me hooked from the very first chapter. Throughout the book; Lapena brings her readers on a rollercoaster ride in this psychological thriller as we take a front seat and watch; that behind the white picket fences, the manicured lawns and the happy family exterior there are secrets that must not see the light of day.

From chapter one to chapter sixty (Don’t worry, chapters are short but intense), we are drawn into the lives of not only the main characters but also those whose lives are touched by a single person who has only one goal in life and that is to look after number one at all costs. As you go deeper into the chapters and the story opens up in front of you, you begin to double guess yourself and wonder who in fact is telling the truth and can they be believed?
Everything is reviled in the final few chapters at breakneck speed and with a shock ending leaving the reader exhausted and this reader wanting more!

The End of Her is available for loan from Kildare Libraries . Or if you would like to download some other Shari Lapena ebooks or audiobooks check out the selection on Bolinda Borrowbox here.
