By Emma, Leixlip Library

As of the 1st of May 2020, Kildare Library Service has begun to register names for a Housebound Library Service. This service is available to Kildare residents of any age, who are currently cocooning as a result of Covid-19. The service is aimed at anyone who is over 70 years old and anyone  with underlying health conditions or serious illness and cannot leave their home, this also includes children and young adults.

Library members and non-library members can phone in to the Kildare Community Call line to make requests for their reading preferences e.g. fiction/non-fiction/crime etc. and what format they would like e.g. hardback/softback/audiobooks/large print/ DVD’s.  The service will be lending five items at a time and they will be delivered usually within a week to the address given when making an order. Then when finished with the books or items service users can call the Kildare Community Call line again to arrange collection of the items and arrange a new delivery.

Calls to request this service from eligible users can be made to the free phone Kildare Community Call number: 1800 300 174
