Daisy Jones and The Six is the fictional oral history of the rise and fall of a 70’s rock band. It is the story of the band, Daisy Jones and The Six, who became the biggest band of the 1970’s and then break up one night after a show in 1979. It is the story of why they break up and how they rose to fame in the first place.
This is one of the most entrapping novels that I’ve ever read. I never expected to care so much about a fictional 70’s rock band’s rise and fall from fame, but it quickly made a home in my heart and solidified a love for Taylor Jenkins Reid’s ability to tell stories from unique points of views.
Reid writes such complex, nuanced, strong-willed women in fiction which never fails to leave me in awe of their confidence and faults that make them seem like real people. The script style that this story is written in made me feel as though a documentary was playing out in my head.
This novel has so many twists and turns and Reid provides some heart wrenching reveals that make you put down your book. The way in which she creates these fictional characters feels so real that you have to remind yourself that this wasn’t a real band. You can’t look up their discography on Spotify to hear Daisy and Billy coming through your speakers.
This was a journey that I never wanted to end. Amazing. I would recommend listening to this on audiobook as it makes the entire experience so much more real. That’s all I can say.
